Great Smoky Mountains National Park is rich in the Appalachian history. Before the park was established, it was the settlement of the Paleo Indians and Europeans. The Chickamauga & Chattanoogae National Military park is situated about 120 miles. You can also visit the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park=, which is located 95 miles away.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers several campgrounds for backcountry and frontcountry camping. Group campgrounds are available as well. If you bring your horse, you can bring it to the horse camps. The backcountry camping is designed for backpackers that want to perform mountain hiking. The frontcountry camping is situated near the car park. It is located nearby to the toilets and water facility. Each of the campsite in the frontcountry campground is equipped with a fire grate and picnic table. The group campground offers large campsites for campers that travel in groups of more than 8 people. The horse camps offer primitive facility for your horses.
